This analog controller is unique from its competition in that it can easily be configured to be EITHER a PEAK-CURRENT-MODE controller or a VOLTAGE-MODE controller. The Peak-Current-Mode Controller advantages include: offers faster response to changes in load (better transient load step performance), simplified compensation (less components), and inherent current-limit protection. The disadvantages include: two loops (current and voltage), thus circuit analysis is more complicated, control loop unstable >50% duty cycle (requires slope compensation), and less noise immunity (leading edge current spike requires blanking time). Now for the Voltage-Mode Controller advantages include: easier to design and analyze, better noise immunity, and better cross-regulation for multiple output supplies. The disadvantages include: slow transient response, more complicated compensation circuit (more components), and compensation varies with input voltage.
