LMP8480 and LMP8481 Current Sense Amplifiers Slide 4

The difference between the LMP8480 and LMP8481 is the ability to measure current in a single direction for the LMP8480, and both directions for the LMP8481. In the case of the LMP8480, the output voltage is 0 when there is no current and max voltage (~14 V) with max current. Since the LMP8481 measures the current in both directions, a reference voltage is required to determine the output offset for the zero level. In this example, a 1.2 V reference connected to the LMP8481 sets the output zero level at 1.2 V and positive currents will generate output voltages >1.2 V, while negative currents will generate output voltages <1.2 V.
