AS5134-Slide10

The best fit for BLDC motors are the encoders with high speed (e.g., AS5134) or high resolution (e.g., AS5040, AS5145), depending on the motor application. At present, DC motor designs with each of these chips have been realized by customers. Another aspect to consider is propagation delay. Propagation delay is the time it takes the encoder to calculate an angle. It causes additional errors that increase linearly with speed. Consequently, short propagation delays are preferred, especially when using the UVW outputs. The AS5134 has the shortest propagation delay of all ams OSRAM's encoders (~16µs). Longer propagation delays (such as the 100µs associated with the AS5040 and AS5145) can be compensated by software, as they are known and they increase linearly with speed. Therefore, these devices are also used in high speed applications, implementing delay compensation by software.
