This slide presents the difference between the two modes. The traditional mode is the current mode. In voltage mode, the voltage is applied though a fixed frequency PWM. When switched from one current level to the next current level, can take several cycles which provides smooth operation with less ripples and no audio noise as it is a fix frequency PWM. Thanks to the small ripples, 128 microsteps are possible. The current mode is more noisy and the frequency of the PWM can change and appear in the audible range. The current mode behaves better and keeps a higher torque at high speed. In low speed, the voltage mode is smoother and allows a better torque regulation at very low speed.
