The adjustable current limit prevents input rail voltage droop caused by overcurrent conditions that if left unchecked could cause system instability. Setting the current limit is as simple as applying a resistor divider to the control pin. The corresponding maximum input current can be inferred from the input current versus output current curves found in the respective datasheets.
