Depending on the environment the switch will be operated in, the choice of sealings can be critical. Switch sealing standards are referred to by Ingress Protection (IP) standards, in which the first number in the standard refers to protection from dust and the second, from water. An IP67 standard is totally protected against dust and protected against the effects of water for up to 30 minutes when immersed up to 1 meter. An IP68 standard shares the same protection against dust, but allows the supplier to define and support the product’s ability to withstand water immersion. An IP69K standard is designed to ensure protection against dust and high pressure, high temperature wash downs.
