Image of Microchip's MCP16502 High-Performance PMICsMicrochip's MCP16502 power management integrated circuits (PMICs) are compatible with embedded microprocessor units (eMPUs) requiring dynamic voltage scaling (DVS) with the use of high-performance mode (HPM) optimized and fully tested for the microprocessor units (MPUs) with different memory configurations. These MCP16502 PMICs are compatible with SAMA5DX and SAM9X6 MPUs, which are supported by dedicated device variants. The MCP16502 features a low no-load operational quiescent current and draws less than 10 µA in full shutdown. Active discharge resistors are provided on each output. All buck channels support safe startup into pre-biased outputs.

The MCP16502 evaluation board, DT100105, evaluates the capabilities of the MCP16502 high-performance PMICs which are designed for SAMA5Dx and SAM9x6 MPUs. The device features four DC/DC buck converters capable of delivering 1 A each, two linear dropout regulators (LDOs) with 300 mA current capability and I2C programmable output voltages, and four operating modes: active, low-power, hibernate, and high-performance. These PMICs are ideal for applications including field-programmable gate array (FPGA) or digital signal processor (DSP) power, high-performance MPU implementations, and industrial equipment.
