Making a Better Part Search

The DigiKey website is constantly being updated with improvements and fixes to make finding the components you need for your design as quick and easy as possible. One of the key differentiators between DigiKey and “the other guys” is our part search functionality. Part search, for DigiKey, is a living, breathing, always growing and adapting organism with updates constantly being pushed out. That being said, new features within the DigiKey part search often don’t receive the “Hey! Check this out!” treatment. Most of the time these changes are behind the scenes and don’t change the overall functionality of the search. However, we also make changes based on suggestions and ideas from you through Twitter, Facebook or email.

One of the most requested updates involves being able to filter DigiKey components based on if they are usually stocked or not (whether we currently have stock or are waiting on stock to replenish). This helps you make informed decisions on what products you want to design with and if they will be normally stocked and readily available. If you listened carefully you could hear a collective “No duh, how did we miss that?” emanating from the DigiKey building as we realized that was a feature that should have been a no-brainer. Well, thanks to you, we listened and finally made the change.

As you can see, under the part search – stock status, we added the “Normally Stocking” check box. Going one step further we added “Media Available” to allow you to further narrow your search by products with datasheets, photos and EDA/CAD models. The EDA/CAD models filter is unique to the industry and will help you make the best decision for your design if you require models.

We are now up to 6.2 million (1.6 million normally stocked; thank you, check box) part numbers in our product search. The easier we can make it for you to search, filter, and sort through our extensive catalog, the better your experience will be. DigiKey’s website is the top-rated and most-visited website in the electronic distribution industry.
